Peace Is Found In A Garden....

...or so I have heard. This is our little backyard garden. I have not done all I would like this Summer due to the heat and drought. Yet, things still bloom thanks to Grace's watering can and we did plant those things that were more tolerant of the harsher conditions. I sat for a long time in my backyard today. At the last moment, my brother just found that he could not go into the vet with my sis in law. I went in his place. It was Lisa and I who stayed with Haley as she left this Earth. We have lost several treasured furry friends but this was the first time I had actually stayed with a beloved pet at such a precious moment. I am both thankful and distraught. I know that the sadness will pass...for all of us. The bad memories will give way to all the sweet ones. I thank you for all your wonderfully understanding and insightful comments about Haley. Your words have helped...more than you can know. Thank you...so, so much. So I have posted a picture of our little garden and deck. Nothing grand mind you but it is mine and I love it. Next year we will have the house re-painted and do some more planting. But here it is, for what it is worth, for now. I neglected to put our flower boxes on the deck railings this year and I regret that. Still, many little bits and bobs flourish and give sanctuary to the chipmunks, rabbits, birds, butterflies, geckos and the neighbor's cats who seem to prefer our garden. Hmmm.....silly felines! I send my love to you all and a wish that your weekend is a peaceful one, a safe one, a sweet one.
Hugs,

Oh My Gosh, I am so behind in your blog. I am so sorry to hear about your sweet dog. Just know that she is better now and watching over all of you. Enjoy the sweet memories.

I love your back yard. It is adorable. The little pieces of personality are just perfect! I would love to be there having a glass of iced tea or lemonade. Just perfect!

Dearest Sue, I just read the post about Haley and all I can say is that I'm so glad that your brother and SIL decided to let her go before she suffered from the cancer...so many people don't want to let go and the animal is left to suffer terribly before they do!! Losing a beloved pet is never easy but you all have wonderful memories of her:-) I loved the story of Dan being pulled in the water after the geese! lol I'm glad you were able to find peace in your beautiful garden after having gone with your SIL to have Haley put down. Giving you BIGGGGG hugs ((((Sue)))) xoxo

Perhaps you can add a little plaque of Haley to your garden so that you always remember her? A thought only.

Your garden is heavenly. I love your blog. It's so wonderful on the eyes.

Beautiful garden, Sue!

I've not had to do what you did. J has always gone. It's very difficult. Our furbabies are valuable, loved and sweet family members.

I'm so sorry about Haley - oh gosh, I don't know if I could do that. Well, I guess I could, but I'd be distraught. I'm such a lousy "rock" during a crisis. I really got to work on that...
Anyway, love your backyard garden! I'm moving in...lol Don't worry about getting a room ready, I'll just camp out in the backyard in a hammock or something. My needs are simple. Oh yeah, I'll probably need a really ginormous fan or something, maybe a window a/c unit sitting on a pole, I don't know. Don't go to too much trouble...I'll be fine with just a little a/c. And maybe a mini-fridge...and somewhere to plug a coffee pot in. Well, I'll leave the details up to you. Like I said, my needs are simple. I'll call when the movers have packed up all my stuff to let you know when to expect delivery...

Oh simmer down, simmer down. I'm just kidding. No need to try to move in the dead of night. lol

I love a garden; alas, I lack the tenacity to plant one!

One of these days. . .

Your garden is as beautiful as your house and has YOUR special touch.

ah, haley was so cute and must have given such great joy to so many. Losing such a precious pet is like losing a little piece of yourself and it hurts so. Sending a hug and may the sweet memories help ease the sadness.

I was thinking about you that day. I'm sure your SIL appreciated your being there with her at such a difficult time. I honestly don't think I could do it. I'd be an emotional wreck, so I know how Jim feels.
Your garden is just beautiful. Very lovely!

Oh Sue, your garden is lovely and I like Mama P's suggestion of adding a special Haley plaque to the garden in her honor. That was so kind of you to go with your SIL and I certainly understand your brother not being able to go to the vets. I'm not certain that I could have gone.

First off, I know how you felt being there with Haley during those final moments. As I said in my comment to your previous post about Haley, I was there when our Tootsie dog was put to sleep.

This may sound strange, but for days afterwards I felt Tootsie's spirit in our house especially at bedtime when she would beg to be lifted into our bed to be with us for the night. Toward the end, she could not manage to jump up there herself.

Your flowers and garden are beautiful. I love your brick walk. I wish I had one. And those white flowers. I don't know what they are, but they sure are pretty. They remind me of hydrangea and also a certain kind of lilac.

Anyway, thanks for the visual tour. It was a treat for my eyes on this gloomy Chicago Sunday with all its drizzle.

Hugs from the other susieQ

I am sorry about Haley. It is so sad to say good bye to a friend like that. I hope you all are doing ok. Will they get a new dog or wait?
Your garden is lovely. We just moved in to our new house and I want to do a lot of things, but think it should wait until spring. It's a little late in the season up here!
Hope you have a wonderful week.
God bless.

Sue, I'm so sorry to read about poor Haley. At least she's in Heaven now, strong and healthy again. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your brother's family. It is so terribly hard when a beloved pet passes on. {{{Hugs}}}

I'm so sorry about Haley...I know how hard it is to lose a beloved pet.
My husband had to put down his old dog last year and was in the vet's room with him...he had this dog before he had even met me, 14 yrs ago! It was very hard for him...even though in his case, the suffering had already gone on too long.

Your garden is so wonderful...I wish I could take a stroll there!
