So, how did we decide on the name for our home? I just knew that upon my first visit to the site, a name would pop into my head. The perfect name for our home!
We were living near St. Louis at the time it was being built and drove over several times during the 5 month process. The first visit was during the Winter and it was so cold and blustery the day we chose to make that initial trip. There had been a lot of rain and snow that week and, what would eventually be our small back yard & garden, was a sea of gray, undulating mud.
It all looked rather depressing and nothing at all like the home I had long awaited.
As we *tight rope walked* the wooden planks from the garage through the flowing torrents of ooze, 3 small brown rabbits darted by us as quick...as quick...well, as quick as a bunny!
Bill turned to me and said, "There! Who loves a little rabbit more than you? And look at them run around here! That has to be a GOOD sign right?". Rabbits....Running....Right by my future cottage....um....well. It *could* have been called, "Oozing, Gray and Depressing Mess Cottage", "I Am Freezing My Ample Tushie Off And This All Looks Horrible Cottage" or the ever popular, "How will this gross, disgusting muddy crap ever be a sweet little English garden Bill? Huh? HUH??? Cottage". In the end, "Rabbit Run Cottage" won out. Thankfully! Can you imagine how expensive a slate welcome sign with that
last title on it would have cost?

LOL, Susie Q. Sometimes a little nature is all it takes for the perfect inspiration. If we named our place after rabbits it would have to be "Overrun With Rabbits Cabin"! Our outdoor kitties love to watch them play--for some reason, they never bother them. Have a fun weekend with your sweet family!
Thanks for the comment you left at my blog, Susie Q. I came over here for a visit and LOVE your blog! I can't wait to spend time reading through your posts. I'll definitely be back for more visits! :o)
I love to read your post, you cheer me up. I love your home, and the way it was named. Not named this one as it isn't the one we will stay in, eventually I hope to name a house "Dunroamin"
LOVE the story on how you name your home! And you're right: it's much better than "Holy-frejoles-Bill-there's-way-too-much-work-to-be-done-to-ever-make-this-a-home-and-will-never-be-Hearst-Castle-more-like-the-Haunted-Mansion."
Cute story.
Wonder what Cindy will name her new house? Hopefully she will see a cute little rabbit and not a-not-so-cute-creature running in the mud.
I asked her to talk to you regarding decorating tips. She has picked out the same color shutters.
Love,
Terri
Great story and perfect cottage name!
I just LOVE this sweet story!! I have to tell you ... one of the reasons we chose the house we are in now is because of a rabbit. We looked and looked for houses and then my MIL found this very small ad in the Richmond paper. So, we asked our realtor to bring us by. As we are driving down the private drive, there was a deer on the side of the road and as we pulled into the drive-way there were two rabbits hopping along the grass. I looked at the butter yellow house with blueberry cream shutters and just KNEW before entering, THIS was our house. It was magical!
Cute!!
Is my home supposed to have a name too? How about Hughes Highway
What a delightful story! Now we're all going to have to name our homes! I loved reading your post on how "Rabbit Run Cottage" came into being Sue.
I know you're enjoying your time with you family this weekend and enjoying having your hubby home.
Hugs, Andi
What a great story about how you came about the name. I don't have a name for ours, but my Mom's is "The Little House". Maybe inspiration will hit me one day. :)
What a lovely story! I have thought it was a great name, and now that I know the story behind it, I love it even more!
Once again you made me laugh and in the end found the name you gave your home completely charming and perfect. From the photo it looks like a lovely home indeed.
That was fun reading how your home's name came to be ~ and I love the name!

Kim
