Moving Heaven and Earth

You purchase one tiny, hardly noticeable thing and, in fitting it properly in to your home, everything must shift. And by everything, I mean E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. You see, I buy one minuscule item and we had to move the armoire, the table, the rocker, the rug, the powder room, the front porch, the Heavens and Earth....okay. Those last 4 things were a slight exaggeration but only slight. Just to get it inside was an Olympic feat worthy of several Gold medals. Mom, Grace and I stopped by a local consignment shop and I spotted this cabinet straight away. It was just perfect, just the thing for my British Royal collectibles, just the right size for the corner, just the right finish and just sold. Yup, someone beat me to it. Still, I left my telephone number with the shopkeeper, just in case. They called the next morning. The buyer discovered the cabinet would not fit in her vehicle and had no other means of transport. Did I wish to buy it? Did I ever! It was a fraction of what it would cost new and, even as Math challenged as I am, I knew what a deal this piece was. I was fairly sure it would fit in the van and fit it did. Then, all we had to do was move everything in it's path out of the way, re-arrange the entire living room and swap out all the pictures, re-edit the tablescapes and voila! Did I need it? Nope. Did my teensy (I like to say COZY) living room really have room for another piece? Nope. Did I have to have it? Uh huh. Hey! It was a steal! Really! I keep wondering if the local police will discover my devious crime. I feel guilty. Okay, so not TOO guilty. I paid the price the shop asked. Everyone is happy. Life is good.

I believe I would have been willing to move heaven and earth to get that beauty properly situated in my own home.

You have nice things.

It looks well worth the trouble it caused. I like that it's illuminated too. Makes the corner even cosier.

I always say it's a sin to leave something that is practically FREE. :) Looks scrumptious, my friend.

I went and found some practically free items myself at the Nordstrom Rack yesterday. Just doing my part.

What, YOU HAD to buy it, it is fantastic and shows off all your collectibles. What a delight to see. I agree, would love to see pics of some of the collection :)

Oh my gosh...that is beautiful! It sounds like it was meant to be yours! You were so smart to leave your name...that's how I got my free headboard too. Someone else wanted it and then backed out.

Isn't that amazing that it was sold, but you left your phone number just in case? See, it was meant to be. It was meant to be yours, and it looks perfect in your living room. I LOVE all of your British Royal collectibles!

Of course you had to have it! Even though it took a little work to move everything, it's just perfect. And the fact the other buyer couldn't transport it was a direct sign that it belonged to you. xoxo

I cracked up reading this post because whenever I buy something new I go through the same thing! My husband has a flat spot on his forehead he says because everytime I ask him to help me move a couple things, which turns into 20 things, he says not again and hits his forehead with his palm in exasperation. He just doesn't get the whole rearrangeing thing.

ah, see how PERFECT that is there!! All that work was worth it...I love your new cabinet, just look at that door, simply divine.

Also, this just proves once again to ask, and leave your number "just in case" good girl.

LOL,that is one beautiful "miniscule" cabinet! Gold medals all around to you all for even getting it inside, let alone rearranging your living room! You may be math challenged, LOL, but to get this at a fraction of the cost is incredible. Way to go! That was sommmmme consignment shop. And I was riveted to your fun story. Who knows what today might bring! Can't wait to hear about it. :-)

You're right, it is perfect for that corner!! And when you have the perfect place for something, there's no fighting it - don't bother trying. And that fact that you got it for a song is the cherry on top!!
