New Life

We have visitors at Rabbit Run Cottage! Ms. Bunny (So named by Miss Grace) Robin has made the sweetest nest in my front door basket. There, nestled among the silk forsythia and greenery is her new home and 5 perfect little eggs. Of course this means that I am worrying about them and obsessing over whether or not we will have 5 tiny baby robins soon. Some of you may remember that a dove (whom we named Madeline) hatched 4 little ones in this same basket 2 years ago. Sadly, a neighbor's cat paid a visit one night and we lost all but one. My fingers are crossed that these 5 escape a similar fate!

Those are some of the brightest robins eggs I have ever seen. Aren't they just beautiful? Heres hoping everything goes right as rain and you have baby robins soon:>)

I saw a robin scavenging the old dried daylily leaves from the scrap pile on Sunday. I went out and put some dryer lint and some twine to help her out. I tried to see where she went, but she was too fast for me.(Like that is a surprise, I haven't been able to fly, even with a broom, for years!)

Dearest Sue,

I've always loved the colour of robin eggs and as Kathleen said in her comment, I don't think I've ever seen them that blue either! I'm very much like you and I'd be steady checking on them, trying to protect them. Last summer my neighbours saw me running down the street in curlers going after crows that were after the baby robins who had nested in our front spruce tree! lol I practically swiped one baby right out of a crow's beak and brought it home to put back in the nest...unfortunately some I couldn't save:-( I know it's all part of the animal/bird cycle but gee whiz....

I so love all your Spring pictures! Not too many flowers are blooming around here yet and the trees are just now starting to have buds on them. It's turned so cold again, only going in the high 30's today.

Hope you're having a fabulous week:-) Love you! xoxo

Such beautiful blue eggs. I do hope they get to hatch and then fly away. I don't have a cat but my dog finds new birds fallen out of their nests to be quite interesting.

What a lovely blog this is! I'm so glad you left a comment on mine so I could find you, Sue. I've enjoyed all of your beautiful photos, and you've given me a few good laughs.

I'm SO honored that you added Hooked on Houses to your blogroll! Thank you so much. You made my day. -Julia :-)

What perfect looking eggs, Susie Q. If you a worried about another cat attack, you could surround the nest with some temporary chicken wire. Just a suggestion.....The mother robin could still get in and out but the cat could not get in.

I'm going to have to show this post to J tomorrow! I can't believe how blue those eggs are. Very neat.

Sue I wish you could have seen J's jaw dropped expression when I showed him the photo of the eggs. :o) A quote, "Are those REAL!"

Thanks for sharing them :o)

Maybe you could put up a little wire/mesh protection in front of it to discourage a cat. Only until the babies fly ??

We found the remains of a lovely dove in our back yard. Of course we are parenting our daughters cat temporarily -- but we also have seen three strays wandering through recently. Makes me so sad.
