Fruity Goodness Of A Weekend

Yum...doesn't this look good? It IS and the perfect thing for a Spring or Summer meal. Bill is out working in the yard, Grace is with a friend for the day, Daniel is getting ready for a date (Would you believe I actually purchased my son a hair gel containing pheromones? Yes I did. I was making a run (Okay, a slow trot) to the store and he asked me to pick up some of that slimy gunk. My words, not his, Ahem. I grabbed the tube that looked the most interesting, got home and voila! Gel with pheromones. Guaranteed to keep your hair frozen in place during a Category 5 hurricane AND attract females of every species at the same time. What a Mom I am right?) and I am inside futzing and puttering away. It is what I do best. Truly. I have a Master's Degree in both futzing and puttering. Graduated Summa Cum Laude in puttering. I am still having a great deal of problems with allergies this year and can not work outside too long so I am back indoors and planning dinner. Nothing better than a sneezing cook with red, weepy eyes is there? And yes folks, another couple will toss caution to the winds and brave dining with us. Poor souls. Neighbors who are very special to us are coming so I do hope I keep them alive. Fingers crossed! I apologize for being away from our sweet bloggy world so much this week. I am trying to make my rounds to visit all of you as I can. My allergy related eye problems are aggravated further by computer ! I can only be here a little at a time. Phooey. I had such a fantastic surprise yesterday evening! I had a call from the witty and glorious Mama P! I had the best time chatting her ear right off and even got to speak to her precious little guy, "Stink". Her daughter "Pip" had the good sense to decline a conversation with the "Bunny Lady" and I applaud her for that. We also plan on watching "Juno" after dinner. I have heard such wonderful things about it. Last night, we watched "Lars and the Real Girl". Such an engaging and heart warming film. Yes, Lars does order a "Real Doll" and begins to pass it off (To his family and the small town in which he lives) as his new girlfriend. That description might scare off some potential viewers but do not be mislead by this premise. This little gem of a film is anything BUT lewd or tawdry. It is sweet and absolutely delightful. Give it a try. I hasten to recommend films as not everyone adores indie, off the wall films as Bill and I do. So, I am simply *sharing* my affection for this little movie. Enough said! I do hope you are all having a sweet weekend...I just wanted to stop by and say hello and let you know that each one of you are so special!
Fruit Tart
Cookie Crust
1cup all-purpose flour
6tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
2tablespoons sugar
1egg yolk
Filling
1package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
3/4cup marshmallow creme
3cups assorted fruit
1/4cup apricot preserves
1tablespoon water
1.Heat oven to 350°F. In medium bowl, mix all crust ingredients, using fork or pastry blender, until soft dough forms. Press firmly in 12-inch pizza pan to within 1/2 inch of edge of pan. Prick thoroughly with fork. Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool completely.
2.In medium bowl, beat cream cheese and marshmallow creme until smooth. Spread evenly over crust. Arrange fruit on cream cheese mixture.
3.In 1-quart saucepan, heat preserves and water over low heat, stirring occasionally, until preserves are melted. Cool slightly. Spoon over fruit. Store in refrigerator.
You can use refrigerated sugar cookie dough instead of the scratch cookie crust and it works just as well!
Variation
It is easy to customize this fruit tart by using fresh fruits of the season! Choose blueberries, raspberries or sliced kiwifruit, nectarines or strawberries to name a few. You can also vary the preserves to add your own personal touch.

Everyone seems to be blogging about fruit today; makes me want to run to the store and get some. That tart sure looks good and really quite healthy. Of course I might want to add a dollop ( or two) of whipped cream.. A girl has to keep her weight up, don'y ya know ( she says tongue in cheek). Have a super time with your friends.

It's Naked GArdening Day!

Run out with your camera and see if you can find anyone by peeking through their slat fences!!!

Just kidding.

But I thought it was the kind of thing you would DEFINITELY want to know about.

Come on over and add to my top ten list of things you should think about when gardening nekked.

Yum, that fruit looks good. We just bought 4 lbs of strawberries for 6.99. Perhaps we'll do up a tart, too?

Lovely chatting with you.

love love love your sense of humour. I too have a son, a teenage son and gel, among other items, are stories unto themselves, right?

I am definitely going to try that tart. Will check in again sometime soon. Wonderful postings.

So, what did you think of Juno?

I guess I liked it, sort of...but that family sure was calm about their 16y.o. daughter turning up pg. I thought the movie made the whole situation look like "no big deal" when having a baby really is quite a big deal!!! I dunno. JMHO
Hope your allergies calm down!
Love,
Terri

Oh, now I need to run out and get lots of fruit! (But not hair gel with pheromones. My son is big on Axe, which drives his sister crazy!)

Looking forward to seeing Juno, too. Both my kids loved it.

We loved Lars and the Real Girl. I saw it twice and cried both times! You don't see too many family movies around any more.

You are a brave mother to buy that hair gel! Oh my!

All that fruit looks so delicious, I almost finished the entire plate before I realized it was a PICTURE! Yes, I would have bought my boys the pheromone gel, it wouldn't have crossed my mind to wonder at my motives...you did say dinner was in about an hour, right??? And I hope you can find some relief for your allergies!

Hi Sue! I've missed you. Thanks for your faithful visits.

The recipe looks marvy. So glad you were puttering. Isn't that what the best days are made of?! Mama P and I have talked, too. She always has a special place in my heart, and I'm forever grateful that God uses whatever He has to, the internet for example, to pull people together. Glad He brought me to you.

Enjoy the rest of your week. I'm putting the finishing touches on a bear costume, and lest I rest on my laurels, I have a Alan a Dale costume to make for Robin Hood very soon, too. Too bad I don't know how to sew, just quilt. My machine has heard a few curses under my breath. So has my seam ripper. ;)

so how did the slimy gunk work for your boy?

Kari (GrannySkywalker) said...

Yes, your fruit tart looks divine, darling, and I don't say that to just anyone. :)

Hate that your allergies are so bad...this will be the time you run into Brian D at the hardware store, while your eyes are all red and wicked looking! (snicker, snicker...just kidding!) Hope you start feeling better soon. And if not, pass those pesky allergies onto that son of yours before his hair gel starts driving the female population into a frenzy! I don't care how fine a man smells...if he's red-eyed and snotty, the women folk WILL leave him alone. Trust me. lol

The fruit tart looks so very yummy!

What a super cool Mom you are...slimy hair gunk with pheromones!!! Are you looking for a daughter-in-law?

I was thinking about getting Juno to watch and now I know I must see it. Perhaps the Lars one too...someone else told me they enjoyed it.

I'm busy trying to catch up on my blog reading.

Hope those alergies get better soon. Bunnies shouldn't have red weepy eyes.

Hugs, Andi
