Harvest Season Living Like The Pioneers...

...for just a few hours last Saturday. Mom, Grace, Bill and I drove over to Caesar Creek near Waynesville, Ohio and the Pioneer Village. They were having an encampment of re-enactors and there were displays and demonstrations aplenty on the grounds. The weather was beautiful and it was such a nice way to spend the afternoon. The village is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history and promoting a deeper understanding of the history of Southwestern Ohio Frontier. There is a wonderful collection of log cabins which they maintain, restore and preserve. This past weekend was the Harvest Festival where the harvest season is celebrated as it was in 1800. The participants were *preparing* for winter by making soap, hominy, apple butter, hearth cooking, wood making, blacksmithing candle dipping and so much more.
Before we left the area, we drove over to the gorge park and took a little walk, then let Grace look for fossils in the dry river bed. A simple afternoon but such a lovely one. The weather could not have been more perfect. It has been such a sweet Autumn here.
I hope your Fall season is treating you well...enjoy each day and take a few minutes during your busy schedule to look around and see just how beautiful this world truly is.
Love and Hugs,
Susie Q

So why aren't you selling your pictures either singly or in a book somewhere? Really.

Don't you just love "living" history museums? Your mom is just gorgeous, BTW.

Wonderful pictures...but that last one is a MASTERPIECE! I long ago decided if I had been a pioneer woman...I would have KILLED MYSELF! I need luxury!

I absolutely love things like that. I guess it comes with growing up in New England. We have some re-enactments here in Florida too and I try to get to them every chance I can. I just love "living" history. The photos are FANTASTIC! Thanks.

Hello dear Sue:-)

I so love these kind of places! This past weekend Steve & I had thought of going to a similar place called Black Creek Pioneer Village but we ran out of time...and the poor guy was limping enough already from all the walking we'd already done! lol I love visiting places like that, it was such a simple and hard life and yet it had to be rewarding to be able to do so much by hand. xoxo
