Welcome Fall!

“It looked like the world was covered in a cobbler
crust of brown sugar and cinnamon.”
~Sarah Addison Allen, First Frost

"There is a harmony in autumn, and a lustre in its sky,
which through the summer is not heard or seen,
as if it could not be, as if it had not been!"
~ Percy Bysshe Shelley

“Autumn carries more gold in its pocket than
all the other seasons.”
~Jim Bishop

“The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the
storms their energy, while cares will drop
away from you like the leaves of Autumn.”
~ John Muir

“I cannot endure to waste anything so precious as autumnal
sunshine by staying in the house. So I have spent
almost all the daylight hours in the open air.”
~Nathaniel Hawthorne

"Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall."
~ F. Scott Fitzgerald

“Autumn was her happiest season. There was an expectancy
about its sounds and shapes: the distant thunk pomp
of leather and young bodies on the practice field near
her house made her think of bands and cold Coca-Colas,
parched peanuts and the sight of people's breath in the air.
There was even something to look forward to when school
started ― renewals of old feuds and friendships, weeks
of learning again what one half forgot in the long summer.
Fall was hot supper time with everything to eat one missed
in the morning when too sleepy to enjoy it.”
~Harper Lee

Breath in that cooler Fall air. It will cure what ails you!
Revel in the colors of the season.
Bite into a  juicy, crunchy Honey Crisp apple.
Getting out cozy blankets. There’s nothing like cuddling
up in a warm throw blanket to watch a movie.
Go to an apple orchard or pumpkin patch. Pick a Halloween
costume. Jump into a pile of leaves. Go on a hayride.
Build a bonfire. Carve jack-o-lanterns. Wood smoke in the air.
Another special part of autumn is that the colder, darker evenings
bring the perfect excuse to indulge in homemade, heart & tummy warming
comfort food. Now is the perfect time for slow cooked stews,
roast dinners, big pots of chili simmering on the stove.

Enjoy each day of this magical season.

Warmly,
Susie Q

Welcome September

By all of these lovely tokens September days are here,
With Summer's best of weather And Autumn's best of cheer.
  ~Helen Hunt Jackson

Welcome September. I have missed you.
The leaves are already beginning to change
thanks to some unseasonable cool and rainy
weather. The sunflowers are blooming and
Fall is most certainly on it's way.

The morrow was a bright September morn;
The earth was beautiful as if newborn;
There was nameless splendor everywhere,
That wild exhilaration in the air,
Which makes the passers in the city street
Congratulate each other as they meet.
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Wishing you a safe, healthy and very happy
September!

Warmly,
Susie Q

Autumn's Arrival

Fall is here in all it's glory.

“Autumn seemed to arrive suddenly that year.
The morning of the first September was crisp
and golden as an apple.”
                                                               ~JK Rowling

“There is something incredibly nostalgic and significant about
the annual cascade of autumn leaves.”
                                                                       ~Joe L. Wheeler

“Aprils have never meant much to me, autumns seem that season
 of beginning, spring.”
                                               ~Truman Capote in
                                                 Breakfast at Tiffany's

Enjoy this beautiful season and all the gifts it brings.

Stay safe, stay well. Be happy.

Warmly,
Susie Q

Glorious Autumn: October Makes Way For November

The first weekend in November we spent a truly wonderful weekend in
the Holmes County area of Ohio. Our home away from home
is always The White Oak Inn and there is no where prettier or
that has more delicious breakfasts and dinners!

The countryside is spectacular in every season but we
love it best in Autumn.

And I have been neglectful not to share with you my yearly October visit
to Oakwood, Ohio's Scarecrow Row! Here is 2013's fun!

This year one of our favorite Ohio towns, Yellow Springs, had their
own scarecrow fun!

We celebrated my October 26th birthday at a local landmark,
The Golden Lamb. My mother,
our children Daniel and Grace, Grace's friend Sarah
 and our buddy Terri
joined us.

I was also treated to lunch, gifts and cake by 3 of my oldest and dearest friends
the next afternoon.

That evening it was off to The Tropics
where so many wonderful friends gathered to wish me
a happy birthday and dance the night away with music from White Rabbit !

It was a glorious October and it looks like November will be
sweet as well. Here's hoping each of you will be able to enjoy all
the joys that November brings!

Warmly,
Susie Q
