October 3rd

October 3rd would have been my parent's 55th wedding anniversary.
Sadly, we lost my Father 8 years ago. There is not a day that I do not think of my Dad and I know it is the same for my brother and my Mom. Their anniversary is always a little hard for Mom so we will be taking her out to dinner this evening, to a place she has been wanting to try. I wanted to share a few pictures from their wedding album with you. If the church looks familiar, we were married in the same sanctuary. You may remember the photos of our 1978 wedding that I shared in August.
My folks met at Carolyn's Flowers here in Dayton. Mom worked there during her vacations from Ohio State University and later, during her Summer breaks as a school teacher. My mother taught 3rd grade for 32 years.
Dad was the shop's delivery man. He worked there as his *off duty* job from the Dayton Fire Department. My dad was a career fire fighter for 26 years.
As you might have guessed, Carolyn did all the wedding flowers as her gift to my Mom and Dad and they were beautiful.
And yes, they were a good looking couple if I do say so myself! Heck, my Dad was a looker! I still have friends who see their wedding portrait and swoon when they see Dad. *grin*
Dad's best man was his life long buddy, Jack. Jack passed away not long before Dad did. I can imagine the two of them, in Heaven, sitting around a table with a coffee cup in hand, discussing world events. Mom's attendants were Kathleen and Rosemary. Both were childhood friends of Mom's. Kathleen and Mom were later roommates at OSU. They all remain friends today. Mom just spent several days with Kathleen at her home in Minnesota and was able to spend some time with Rosemary, last month, at her home in Pennsylvania.
My Mom and Dad were always devoted to one another. They bickered, as most couples do, from time to time but were always there for one another and were always in love. I was, and still am, so proud to be their daughter. Mom? I will always love you and Dad....you are both
forever in my heart. Happy Anniversary. Yes, Dad may be gone from ths world but it is STILL your anniversary day. Hold those sweet memories close and know that Dad is with us.

OH...what a GORGEOUS couple your folks made...I love, love, love your dad's dark wavy hair...it reminds me of my dad's gorgeous hair. The setting and entire wedding looked magical...just like something from a wonderful old movie...where the bride and groom are so in love, all the people are with them on their special day, the flowers and decor are unbelievable and I have a sneaking suspicion the music was magical. Awww...nothing more beautiful than a young couple in love.

I know you, your mom and brother all miss your father...he sounds like an incredible man...I loved the story of how they met...it really does sound like something from a movie...firefighter on off-day working as delivery man meets lovely college girl during her break from school working at a local florist where he makes deliveries...they were meant to be!
YES...I'm a romantic!!

Thanks for sharing those beautiful memories with each of us...give your mom a hug ( I love that you are spending this evening with her, what a blessing you guys must be to her)...please tell her...I know we are now connected...b/c I feel sure your father is having a cup of coffee with my mom and dad...sitting at a lovely kitchen table...talking about heaven only knows....but I can guarantee with my dad there, they are laughing!!

Blessings...
Teresa

How wonderful. I love all of those pictures. This year would have been my parent's 40th. I was just heartsick that my mom didn't have my dad to share it with. She's blessed to have created a wonderful daughter to share a bittersweet day. Take care and big hug!!

Oh Sue...how beautiful your parents are! I love this wonderful post and getting to see their wedding pictures and read their love story. And to know that you and Bill got married in the same sanctuary is almost like a fairy tale. Thak you for sharing this wonderful and special day.

And how I love the way classic fashion never goes out of style. Those beautiful dresses...both the wedding dress and the bridesmaids would still be in vogue today.

What a sweet tribute to your mom and dad, Sue. How nice of you to remember her special day by celebrating at a restaurant of her choice. Had my mom lived long enough, I hope I would've been as gracious and loving as you.

This is a fabulous post and I really loved the treasured photos. I'm sad your dad isn't about anymore to share this day with your mom -- I'm sure it is beautiful and bittersweet for her. I know on my parent's anniversary, they are always in my hearts. I loved the story, the images, and I'm so glad you shared it with us. (Plus your dad was very handsome!)
