Sweet Memories

One of my dearest friends, P, was the Mother of the groom this past Saturday. In an absolutely beautiful outdoor wedding, L & M became husband and wife. There were many tears of joy, lots of delicious food, great wine, dancing and sweet memories made. The birds were singing, the sun shining and a cool breeze wafting through the pavilion as they took their vows.
The Mother of the Groom's flowers and the precious favors left for each guest...chocolates from Dayton's own Esther Price! The Eiffel Tower represents the spot where the two became engaged 2 years ago, Paris!
Proud Mother and her equally proud son have their dance...
The handsome best man and his beautiful wife try to convince one Miss Grace to hit the dance floor and boogie!
Two people of whom I am pretty fond.... Poor Dan had to be out of town for his job so missed all the festivities. But next week, in Minneapolis, he will be one of the groomsmen. Uh huh, another lovely wedding to enjoy!
What a whirlwind of late...out of state friends visiting, local friends celebrating birthdays and anniversaries, a beautiful wedding and a national holiday! Toss in housework, yard work, chauffeuring Grace and Boo, and our usual round of responsibilities and you have little time to blog as I love to do. I miss you all so when I am unable to visit and I hope you will all forgive me. Often I do visit but don't leave a comment. I hope you will understand. I WILL catch up, as I catch my breath, but, till then, please know I adore you all and think about each and every one of you often.
We spent the fourth with family, dear friends and fireworks.
I hope that those of you who observed this most American of holidays enjoyed the day!
As a way to apologize for being such an awful blog friend of late, here is a wonderful Summertime dessert recipe from Ms. Paula Deen herself....
The Lady and Sons Peach Cobbler
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter 3/4 cup sugar 3/4 cup self-rising flour 1 cup milk 1 (28-ounce) can sliced peaches in heavy syrup, un-drained (use fresh peaches if available; see note*) Cinnamon, for sprinkling, optional Vanilla ice cream or fresh whipped cream, for serving *If they are available, by all means use fresh peaches. In a saucepan, mix 2 cups fresh peach slices with one cup sugar and one cup water. Bring the mixture to a boil and then simmer for about 10 minutes. Stir often, making sure the sugar is completely dissolved. Substitute this for the canned peaches. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Put butter in a 13 by 9 by 2-inch baking dish and place in the oven to melt. Stir sugar and flour together and mix well. Slowly add milk and continue stirring to prevent the batter from lumping. Being careful not to burn yourself, remove hot baking dish containing melted butter from oven; pour batter directly over butter in baking dish. Do not stir. Spoon fruit on top of batter, then gently pour syrup on top. Do not stir. Sprinkle cinnamon on top of batter, if using. (The most important part of this dish is not stirring the mixture at this point in the recipe.) Bake for 30 to 45 minutes or until golden brown. Your batter will rise above your fruit, producing the most wonderful of crusts. Serve warm with vanilla ice ...delicious!
Stay well and enjoy your week. You are all so special to me.
Love and Hugs,
Susie Q

Enjoy your busy summer days! Our peaches aren't in quite yet but I'll be trying that recipe in a couple weeks. I love weddings and that one looks especially beautiful. Grace, as always, looks just lovely in her pretty dress.

Sue,

You are forgiven; that recipe sounds delicious and I bet it would be good with apples in the fall too. Now I just have to buy some self-rising flour. What is it with southern recipes and s.r. flour??

Janet
Enjoy Minneapolis, say "Hi" to MTM for me, lol.
