Oh Autumn...where are you?

I have been complaining a lot lately about the weather. I am sure it is getting to be a bit too much for our dear Lord to hear my constant whining and whimpering. I do want to apologize to Him for that. I just hate the heat. I loathe this oppressive heat. My day begins by struggling to walk our front brick path to retrieve the morning paper. The sky above me is a dull battleship gray, the murky air harboring all manner of pollutants and pollen. My poor asthmatic lungs seize and constrict immediately. I cough and feel the first sticky beads of sweat trickle down my back. It is but 6:30 am and the humidity is already at 80%. I know that others have it so much worse and I do feel just awful complaining. I do. Still, I moan. The lack of rain has been horrible. So many are dealing with far too much and our area, well, our area has had little to no rain in months. The gardens are suffering, the Summer flowers have long ago wilted and their vivid color faded away. The only thing thriving in the yards these days are weeds and the occasional patch of crab grass. On my drive home today I was surrounded by never ending seas of dead or dying evergreens and fields. This pale and dusty landscape does nothing to lift a person's spirits...oh how I crave sweet Autumn's bright crimsons and golds, it's crisp, clean morning air. I need to feel a cool breeze caress my cheek as I wait at the bus stop with my daughter and to reward myself with a morning mug of steaming hot chocolate. I want to see each breath take flight in a frosty puff and smell fresh cut wood being added to a Football field bonfire.... setting the sky ablaze with currents of flickering, popping sparks. I want to smell pumpkin pies topped with freshly grated cinnamon baking in our oven. I can not wait to enjoy longer evenings cuddled up on our cozy down sofa, my Grandmother's antique quilt safely tucked around my feet. I want so to gaze at the spice scented candles glowing on our fireplace mantle as a small fire warms our pets, napping in it's dancing orange glow. I need to feel the scratchy warmth of woolen sweaters and hear the steady ping ping of our furnace as it fires. I am ready for this seasonal change, ready for cooler weather. I long to pull out the flannel sheets, vintage quilts and down comforters and to snuggle deep inside this sweet slumber cocoon. I am ready for you Autumn! You can not arrive soon enough for this old girl.

We have been so blessed here in Texas with rain all year. It's been amazing, and I hate to hear of other places that haven't received that glorious stuff. We had a 10-year drought, and we are so thankful that it is gone...for a while, at least. God bless you during your drought and bring you both rain and autumn soon.

Only one solution...you have to move to Northern Ontario:-) We have been having wonderful cooler temps (well except for today when Summer returned) and we've also had some rain so everything is still quite green and alive. I can imagine how very tired you are of that heat...I find 80F too hot for me! lol I love Autumn and I can't wait for it to be in full swing also...sitting myself beside you while we wait for it:-) xoxo

I am SO with you. It just isn't right that it is so hot in September here in the Midwest.

The long term forecast is for delightful weather. I can hardly wait. :)

BRING IT ON...I'm ready for some Autumn too. I'm TIRED of the scorching heat. But I don't like the cold either. SO, if you can arrange for it to go back and forth between Autumn and Spring, that would be GREAT, Thanks!! :-)

Susie Q, It has been a hot summer! Here in the mountains we have been 10 degrees above normal for weeks and 10 inches below rainfall norm. But today (dare I say it our loud?) we had a "cool" breeze. You know the kind the pushes through the hot air and gives you a glimpse of things to come? Hold on - Fall will be here soon!

I can't complain about our weather here in Chicagoland this past summer. We haven't had to water our lawn once this summer and it remains lush and green. In fact not too many days ago, we had such a deluge of rain for days on end that some of our flowers died from too much rain.

But psychologically I am ready for autumn. I like the changes in the seasons. I would not do well living in an area of the country that didn't see much difference in the seasons.

I'm with you sista! Am looking forward to fall arriving. It's slightly cooler here now (down from the 100's of August!), but I can't wait for that crisp cool a.m. feel. Ahhhh, fall! Love that apple pic. That's a great look of fall.

Big hugs to you, Sue! See you when I return.

I'm all about the fall myself, hate the humidity. I can deal with heat without the humidity!!!

Great photo of the apples - reminds me of being in Vermont and "leaf-peeking."

A few weeks ago, we had the most WONDERFUL cool weather, so cool that we had to close the windows at night. It was like HEAVEN! Now, there is a tropical storm brewing off the east coast and we are told by the weather guessers that it may hit us (Wilmington, DE). Oh joy. NOT!

I don't care, I'm off early tomorrow morning for a long weekend camping on the Chesapeake Bay . . . ahh, but bring on Autumn and mums and cider and fires in the outdoor fireplace and raking leaves . . well, maybe not the leaves.

It sounds awful!!
I hate to tell you this, but our heat is gone here for now. I know it might come back before long, but for right now it is cloudy and cool.
It feels like Fall today.
Have a great weekend, and I will pray for cool weather for you.

You described Autumn so beautifully and eloquently, that you could easily have a career in writing! Really, you should!
Anyway, you made me want autumn to come even MORE so now. I LOVE the fall, I'm definitely with you on that one! I don't like heat and humidity at all, and just waiting for some nice cool fall jacket-weather days!

I think all of your "Autumn" wishes will soon come true soon...they are calling for a cool down next week up this way...I even went and bought some new blue jeans as the ones from last winter "shrunk" while in the closet this summer.....

You wrote this so well, I'm going to clip to share (it will be in my sidebar)
:)

I love the thought of cinnamon rolls, oatmeal cookies, pumpkin bread, etc. etc, baking in the Fall oven!! And it is hard to enjoy football quite as much in 90 degree weather as in 70.
We are actually happy here, though, because our temp has stayed around 90-92 for the last week instead of over 100 like we had just a few weeks ago. Ugh!
Hope you get some cooler weather this weekend!!

Well, thank you for visiting my blog and for leaving a generous comment.

Centerville. I have a daughter who lives there. She just turned 51.

Anyway. I really like your writing and your photography and the colors of your blog.

There is a lot to go through. I will, like you, have to return.

If you have time you might want to take a look at my bird blog.

Ohmyohmy. Your kind comment made me blush! Thank you for being so sweet. I loved your autumnal pictures, and am right there with you, waiting on the calendar to turn and the leaves to change! I love that you've decided not to worry about the number 51. You're a great example to those of us who are still a bit uncomfortable with those numbers and what they represent. I just celebrated my 40th birthday this week, and it was a great day. However, I'm not sure how I like the way 40 fits. Wonder if I can return it for a 38, or a 29? Have a great weekend!

I hear you Sue - and I feel your pain.. unfortunately for me, fall (well Florida's version) is still a way off.. BUT, let's go light a pumpkin candle and pretend until it arrives! ;-) I LOVE your new typeset - my eyes can see your beautiful words much easier now.

We have all the fall drinks in at work, and the cinnamon bunts, the apple cider. It is still 90 degrees outside! I like the heat, but LOVE a crisp fall.

It's pretty difficult to get into the fall spirit - decorating the house, football games, etc. - when it's so hot outside! And, Anna Marie's summer clothes are getting really worn, but it's too hot to wear anything else and too close to the end to buy new summer stuff.

Hmph. Guess I'll join you in complaining!
