Yard Sale Newbie

It's Monday and I want to welcome all of you who are hopping over from Rhoda's!
You will find that I am a bit of a novice at this game...
Yes. It's true. I am a Yard Sale newbie. *blush* A Garage Sale virgin. An Estate Sale rube.
I am learning so bear with me! Thanks to Rhoda's inspiration and Sue's inspired finds and insistent "You need to try it!" I ventured forth. Okay, so Sue did most of my wheeling and dealing and I DO have much to learn but I wanted to share with you a few of these first finds...
Is this not gorgeous? It was marked $7 and the man took $5. Later his wife shared that she had originally marked it $4 but a friend told her she saw one in an antique store for $25. I think I did okay. What do you think? *smile* I LOVE turkeys. And yes, I know I am odd. *grin* See that sweet little covered tureen? $3. I wish I had 12 of 'em but I adore this one. I will find lots of tablescape uses for this darlin' piece but for now, it just sits and looks pretty. I like that! And how about this precious mortar and pestle? Made of olive wood, it was $1. The sellers folks brought it home from a vacation overseas and it was never used. I have already used it several times for garlic and grinding sea salt. That's worth a buck right?
Lastly I want to show you this dear little creamer.
Red transferware and so pretty. It was also $1.
Couldn't pass it up!
I have several more goodies to share with you including an old bicycle that Sue found...but that will wait until next time.
Remember, I am new at this so starting off slow!
Oh but I think that the Yard Sale bug bit little 'ol me me. Uh huh. It's venom is swirling through my system and causing all manner of havoc. I know there is but one remedy and that is to get out and find another sale!
So, until next time...
Love and Hugs,
Susie Q

That's not a slow start, sweet Susie!! If I could find those great things in a whole year of yard saleing, I would be happy. The red transferware is especially wonderful. Also, enjoyed the sunflower post. You always do such a great job with your camera on those excursions. I went to a soccer game on Saturday and forgot to take the camera. My second-grade grandson was so cute in his goalie shirt that hung to his knees. A missed opportunity - I need to learn from you. Sally

You did really well!! The items you showed us only came to $7.00 (Is my math correct?). The turkey platter will be fantastic on Thanks... well, you know. And the mortar and pestle~do you think it came from Italy??

I wish I could have gone with you. Most of the yard sales around me are young families getting rid of baby clothes and toys!!

Have a fabulous week, Suzy!!

You got great deals :) I struggle with Yard/Garage Sales because I feel so badly if there isn't anything I want...kind of like I'm sayin' "Oh, your stuff is just C-R-A-P"...

so mostly I'll go to a big neighborhood thing but that is about it...and then I saw all the great finds people in blog land find and I just want to kick myself!

Hey girlfriend, I forgot about the platter we found at that garage sale! It will look so pretty in a tablescape this fall! We gotta go out again soon before the snow flies... You are hooked, ya know! big hugs to you my friend- Sue

I used to have that same turkey platter but sold it in my antiques booth for about $15. That was about 7 years ago, though, and it was purchased as I was pulling it out of the box to display so I may have underpriced it. Good find!

Super bargains Sue. I have that turkey platter too, it was my Mom's until I came right out and asked for it, lol! I see similar ones around here, but hers(and yours) are special. Now I have a different one from Bob's Mom, so I am all set for multiple turkeys!!

What great treasures you found. You say you are new to this? Surely you jest! You got some great deals there sister, you are a pro. The turkey plate for $5 is well worth it (especially if it's $25 in an antique shop)

Is that first plate a Johnson Brother's? The edge work looks very much along their line.

Old post here, but had to comment on your dishes. As a dish fiend, I'm attracted! I have VERY similar turkey dishes (Johnson Bros.) Colors are more brownish -- still close. And I love 'em!
