-When Harry Met Sally
Romantic comedy films are movies with light-hearted, sweetly humorous tales, perhaps tinged with a wee bit of drama. They are stories in which true love is able to surmount almost any obstacle thrown at the two lead character's as they travail down the path to couple-hood and happily ever after. Will they *meet cute*? Please. Will there be chaos? Probably. Will there be well written, witty dialogue? I sure hope so. Will there be a happy ending? Most assuredly. I don't know about you but I like a happy ending. I like cute, I like sweet, I like sappy. I like love. I don't watch Doris Day/Rock Hudson films hoping to see a tragic ending.
Modern classics like Sleepless in Seattle, You've Got Mail, The Goodbye Girl, Notting Hill, Serendipity, Something's Gotta Give, Music and Lyrics, While You Were Sleeping, Tootsie, Pretty Woman, Moonstruck & The Holiday all follow this blissful, albeit, tricky road to love.
One bonus of a good romantic comedy is that they usually take place in fun & sophisticated cities like New York, San Fransisco, London or Chicago.
The movies become a mini travelogue if you will...great cities, so beautifully filmed. There are usually great sets, lovely homes and apartments filled with an eclectic mix of furniture, collections and art. A glossy, chock full of ideas, decorating book come to life. Oh and the music...the soundtracks are as beloved as the films themselves.

I love romantic comedies...I have watched all of the ones you mentioned in this post and I currently have some of the older ones on my netflix list waiting to see again. I can't help it. I DO believe in happily ever after...

The Doris Day movies always remind me of going to the rive-In wearing baby doll pajamas and being able to swing on the swingset before the movie began. I don't think kids get to do *that* anymore and it's a shame.

I love them too. It was after watching Barefoot in the Park, that we decided to get married. We had thought to wait as we were so young and had nothing, but that cute little walk up looked so romantic, we wanted to jump right in. Almost forty years later we are glad we did..!

You are just a romantic girl! I love and buy the old favs to. Hubby will not watch,but when im feeling bad I climb in my bed and watch them. I guess I still Love Sweet Home Alabama. Just the Southern area it was filmed.

When Harry Met Sally is one of my all-time favorites. The writing in it is fabulous!! So clever!!
When it comes to the "oldies," my favorite has got to be "It Happened One Night." I need to see that one again!! :-)
I loved when Harry met Sally...it sort of enforced that feeling that lovers can and should be friends...for all time

I love romantic comedies...they are always my first choice in movie selections...I feel I live a romantic comedy sometimes...and I love the fact that 31 years so far...has been my happily ever after...and I pray it continues for at least 31 more years or 50 more...or 60...

Oh! and I just watched "Somethings Gotta Give" last Saturday with hubbin...funny story...we watched it at the recommendation of our architect (we had seen it before...and I had just purchased it earlier that week for $5.00 at Target...to add to my RC arsenal) he recommended it to watch for design ideas from the house...DESIGN IDEAS...well, that kitchen is fabulous and I enjoyed seeing all the timeless designs...but I soon found myself engrossed in the romance of the movie...oh! and I love the house, too!

My favorite is another Meg Ryan movie called "French Kiss" with Kevin Kline. I might have a tiny crush on Mr. Kline.
I agree. NOthing wrong with "cute" and a happy ending, here and there. One of my favorite movies of late is Love Actually. But I like pretty much all the titles you listed. A little predictability never hurt anyone, and in these days of war and mean people who suck, it's nice to have a little Meg Ryan, Julia Roberts, or Hugh Grant to add a little levity.

Though I don't watch Meg Ryan movies anymore since she lost her mind, had that stupid affair with Russel Crow, and did something hideous to her lips I do love Sleepless in Seattle. You need to go find Return to Me...I LOVE that movie. While you were sleeping used to be my favorite movie now it's Return To Me.
I drive Joe crazy watching some of these movies over and over. Nottinghill Sabrina (I actually like the remake too...which is weird for me) Have You seen A Good Year? Love it! I like all the Thin Man movies because of how Nick and Nora interact as well...And Cary Grant...sigh My favorite is His Girl Friday with Roz Russell. Oh I could go on and on...Want to have a movie party??? Stacks of DVDs popcorn and pizza?
wow, it's been... years since i've seen a romance. really,years. and i love them. and they're beautiful sets. what i thought would knock the romance out of me was writing for tv - the beautiful cozy living rooms like the one pictured are fantastic... then your eyes travel up and you see.... rafters! and ugly lights! hey, i just got my next post for GH writing this... the idea that in marriage, do you keep your eye on the set, or do you insist on looking up at the flaws? huh? wow, look what you made me think about you crazy rabbit lady!!!!!
