The Early Tour Bird Catches The...What?

Yes, I am early in posting this sweet fun...the wonderful neighborhood tour is set to commence on Monday, September 17th. Now, I am the one who is seldom early for anything but let me explain... I will be watching my nephew for 5 days and doubt I will have too much computer time! This little guy is active and, for me, a chubby almost 51 year old, that activity is often a little tiring. Wait! A little?? Sue! Who are you trying to kid! I am usually flat out exhausted but I do love it. So, short story long...(when did I ever say anything quickly?), I wanted to hop on here and participate...early is better than late right? Kathleen, at The Open Window, is sponsoring a neighborhood tour. I found out all about it through our dear Pea. I signed on to participate with many other special bloggers. Um...not that *I* am a special blogger...I meant that *THEY* were special...okay. You know what I mean right? Just click on the links and fly away to all sorts of lovely neighborhoods. This is the original farmhouse on our subdivision's property. It sits along side the walking trail and small pond. There are usually quite a few Canadian Geese and Mallard ducks on the pond...it was very still the morning I took these photos. Perhaps they were sleeping in. This is our small backyard garden. Our homes are modeled after row houses with the garages behind. There are alleyways that run behind each street. Our gardens are long and narrow...some are a tiny bit larger than others. We have one of the smaller ones. This wonderful garden belongs to one of my dear neighbors. Another neighbor's garden. They have 2 of the sweetest Collies. And yet another garden,.. This is the view from our garden. The small city park is directly behind us and these houses are just beyond that. One of my favorite homes in our neighborhood... Another pretty one... This is the view as you turn onto our street. That is our home in the middle. Our little cottage, Rabbit Run. Yes, it is small. I actually take pride in the fact that our house is the smallest, least expensive home in the entire development. Okay, a silly thing to take pride in but hey...we kept the costs down low deliberately. We chose small deliberately. We have been doing things to upgrade a little at a time but we love our cozy home. It suits us. Come on in! You are most welcome here...

Now to us in the U.K. with our Victorian terraces that's a BIG house!!It's such a lovely house-just how I imagine an American house! I love the clapboard (is that what you call wood-covered houses in the States?) and the picket fence!! I wish I could move right in! Beautiful!!

What a lovely home and neighborhood. I adore this post and think everyone should do something similar to the tour challenge. Perhaps I'll even give it a try.

Have fun with your nephew!

What a beautiful neighborhood! I like your little house. Mike and I want to move to a much smaller place when he retires, and I want to make it a 'cottage,' no matter what style house.
Thanks for the sweet comment on the pencil roll I made, BTW!

Hi, Sue! I've been running around like crazy for the last 2 weeks & haven't been able to catch up much with all of you. I just loved your neighborhood tour. I think I would enjoy one of those types of neighborhoods, with the parks & old fashioned amenities. It's just lovely. Your home may be small, but it sure is charming. Love the front entrance with the vine growing.

We have a couple of those kinds of neighborhoods in our city & I just love them. Has a real sense of community & vintage feel. Lucky you!

Thanks always for your very sweet comments!

I love the way your neighborhood is laid out with the garages & alleys in back. It's like the neighborhood of my childhood.

The white fences are so homey & is that a Sweet Autumn vine? It's wonderful & welcoming.
Thanks for sharing! Hugs, DebraK

dang if your neighborhood shouldn't be in the chamber of commerce's brochure for Americana! it's classically American, you lucky girl!

Love your cottage! It's fantastic. Looks like something out of the movies...charming and warm and welcoming.

What a gorgeous neighbourhood & home you have! Thank you for the tour.

That looks like a neighborhood you could really live in. So many now days are cookie cutter houses with no personality.
I just sit in the back with a glass of sweet tea~ if you don't mind!

How beautiful! You have such a lovely neighborhood -- I love that all the houses in the subdivision are not the same! And I, too, would be proud to have the smallest house! Your garden is lovely! Such beautiful hydrangea trees!

Thanks for the tour -- I really enjoyed it!

Please say I can come live by you. Your neighborhood is the most beautiful inviting special place I've ever seen. I love it so much. Why I'm in Arizona, I'll never know. It's so NOT my style.

Jolene George said...

P.S. I won't be sharing my neighborhood. We use to live in a custom home, but now I live in the sea of sameness. We have a hard enough time finding our own house because they all look alike....so boring. One big box after another.

I'm sorry I didn't do this tour.
I have been doing fun mondays for quite some time... and hated to drop out. Didn't have time for both.

I'll probably take time over the next week and visit as many of her links as I can.

Sue, I am late to this tour! Been busy!!! Now I think I might have time, to relax......maybe....

I love the tour and your cottage. The basket on the door is beautiful!

Did you see Winghaven, in O'Fallon area, before you left STL? Your subdivision is somewhat like Winghaven's Boardwalk.

I also like the fact the farmhouse was left! There is nothing recognizable at our farm!

Have fun with your nephew, this week. I know he's going to enjoy staying with you!

Sue,
Your neighborhood is adorable. So much character and pretty green spaces. I'm going to click over and visit the other neighborhoods.
Don't wear yourself out too much next week with the little one. I know what you mean about being exhausted, last week I was with my little ones and feel like I need a week to recover ;)

I loved the tour of your neighborhood, it's quite pretty!

I had to smile at your description of your SMALL cottage home. I once rented a 2 BR home that was only 650 sq ft. Now that was small! But, like you, I thought it fit me perfectly and I loved it! It was so cozy, warm, and inviting.

I really liked seeing your garden and the gardens around you. Nice touch!

Thanks for sharing!

My “Welcome to My Neighborhood” post is right here.

Wow, I wonder who settled your area? What nationality? It is so cute and quaint and European looking...with the row cottages. Very charming. I love all the gardens. I am having trouble getting one to grow up here due to the very short summer. I need a greenhouse!

Thank you so much for participating in Welcome to My Neighborhood! God Bless!

You live in a delightful place, and your house is so sweet.
It reminds me of an old English village around the green.
Your garden at the back looks like the perfect place for a spot of tea!

Your home, garden and neighborhood are just gorgeous...Thanks for the tour! I loved it! Also, congrats to Grace on her completed quilt...she did an awesome job...isn't it fun to see them become so enthused about something so domestic...but of course we mustn't say domestic around them...I think the word would have to be artistic or imaginitive or something along those lines to keep them engaged in the craft. What fun she will have doing this sort of thing throughout her life...man by the time she is 30 she will have some great talents...just imagine she will be designing her own quilts and such by then!

Thanks again for your beautiful tour...and I love your fall decorations...the door treatment is awesome!

Blessings...

I love your house and I think your garden is way better than the others. AND ... I love love LOVE Gracie's quilt!!! WOW!!! So pretty! And those sunflower pictures are going up as my screensaver! NICE! Hey .. . enjoy that little buddy and picture me, the 45 year old mom chasing around my little soon-to-be 4 year old who weighs 55 POUNDS! If he doesn't wanna get in the car I guess we aren't going! He stayed at 43 lbs for a YEAR and just had a growth spurt. WHOA. He was hard enough to pick up at 43. Things are good here. Anyhow...loved walking around your neighborhood! And your home is very pretty...wasn't it Alan Jackson that sang:

"Well, it’s alright to be little bitty
Little hometown or a big old city
Might as well share, might as well smile
Life goes on for a little bitty while"
