Since You Went Away

I just like to share my love of film and there is just something so perfect about gathering the family, cuddling under a cozy quilt, sharing a bowl of popcorn and viewing a sweet, uplifting film!

This is another another classic film that could be considered a Christmas time treat.
"Since You Went Away" stars Claudette Colbert, Jennifer Jones, Shirley Temple., Joseph Cotton, Monty Wooley, Hattie Mc
Daniel, Robert Walker and Agnes Moorehead.

It is truly a sentimental portrait of the World War II home front with its trials, fears, heartbreaks, and its tribute to 1940's American family values...a simple message of pulling together in times of need for the better good of all. Something that all of us in 2012 could pay heed to!

My Mother loves this film and we watched it together many times. If you watch it for nothing else, look at the lovely house decor that these films always had! So it seems a little overly dramatic by today's standards, it is still retains a certain charm and innocence that is so refreshing. I have a great love and fascination of the 1940's and so films of this nature call to me.

The richness of the black-and-white film, the basic camera work, the perfect sets. It's why I love these old films so very much.

This sweet, tear-jerking film begins with a written introduction: "This is the story of that unconquerable fortress - the American home, 1943."

Here is a brief synopsis...

While husband Tim is away during World War II, Anne Hilton copes with problems on the home front. Taking in a lodger, Colonel Smollett, to help make ends meet and dealing with shortages and rationing are minor inconveniences compared to the love affair daughter Jane and the Colonel's grandson conduct.

I hope you will give it a try and see if it just might become one of your favorite Christmas time films!

Warmly,

Susie Q

I've not seen that movie. Sounds like a good one. I'll look for it. Thanks!

Susie Q,
Love, love those romantic movies. There is such a wonderful feeling about them. Makes me a bit "home" sick, I'll admit. I look forward to again seeing "Since You Went Away" and "It's A Wonderful Life" and a few others.

My second all-time favorite, Mrs. Minerva being the 1st. From what my mother has told me women really were like these wonderful women then, for the most part.
