A Quack Quack Here And A Quack Quack There...

Here a quack, there a quack, everywhere a quack quack...oh yeah. Dumb idea. I saw this little pond, frozen over it was...and there, asleep on the ice, were dozens of Mallard ducks. Such a pretty, colorful sight. It was then that I decided it would be a good idea to stop and snap a few pictures of the dozing feathered beauties. Uh huh. Good idea? Dumb idea. First the sentry, Gary, came to call...sensing no real danger from this odd, chubby lady, he called to his partner... ...Dolores and she in turn invited her sister and brother in law, brother and sister in law and their children...their next door neighbors, her cousins and his Uncle Earl. Then Uncle Earl brought his poker buddies and the guys from his lodge... ...who brought their wives and grandkids and their 4th cousins once removed. And what did the odd, chubby lady do? She rummaged through the car and found 10 packets of duck chow that her daughter had insisted they purchase for just such an occasion. And joy rang out amongst the ducks. The odd lady sighed and narrowly escaped with her shoestrings intact.

I love feeding ducks! There are some at a little lake in our town that keep us entertained. My daughter says we have to take food, else they will eat us! I sometimes suspect it, when I see their 'eagerness'!

LOL! This is how the seagulls are at the beach in summer, although they may not be quite as friendly!

LOL! Well it's a good thing you didn't get attacked by that mob. :o)
How pretty do they look against the white snow. I've never seen that before. (Arizona, remember) When we go feed the ducks it's at some gross man made lakes filled with smelly water.

Hi SQ~
They are so adorable! I love their bright orange webbed feet....Funny, when I was driving around our lake today, their were HUNDREDS and HUNDREDS of geese bobbing on the water,so many more than I have ever seen. Between them and the starlings,it gets a little scary sometimes...that DARN Alfred Hitchcock!!! :)

Once a lady from Rabbit Run

Thought she'd feed some ducks for fun

When one made a quack that she could be thinner

She took him home and ate him for dinner

The end.

You are so cute! I'll betcha' you narrowly escaped with your shoe ties intact.

And better not go right back. If they see you coming, they'll mob you for real, next time. :-)

Oh my goodness that made me chuckle :-) Thank you for the smile and for the prayers!

(I'm always amazed how small and connected the military makes our world! We've only been near St. Louis for a short while, but we're really loving it out here. The science m.-wonderful, city m.-amazing, Zoo-free....love it!)

at any point whatsoever did you shout "DUCK!" ... and did all of them drop down on their bellies and get as close to the ice as they could?

Such a funny post.

You are, as always, so entertaining and funny.

Thanks for the laugh.

What a lovely post, you have a wonderful way of describing things, and the pics to go with it were great too - they look great against the white of the ice/snow. I can't see ducks out of my window, but we do feed the birds, and I really enjoy watching them darting around & grabbing at snacks.

I love ducks. Our little tiny pond has a family who hatches out their little ducklets each late April/early May. I don't know what it is about the gentleness and genteelness that they exude, but I love 'em. Wonderful post and darling pictures.
