Cheery-Leaders On The Gridiron

Yes folks. It's that time of year again....football and cheerleading practice has begun! Oh but what I wouldn't give for a sweet Fall-like breeze on these hot & humid August evenings in the park. But I digress....practice has begun in earnest and this year the Wee Elks will have a new cheerleader yelling like a crazed Jonas Brother fan. Yep, that's our Grace doin' her thing!
The girl has sass....
Yes, sweet young girls with delicate sensibilities....who spent part of
Sunday afternoon on the football field!
Uh huh. The football coaches wanted to show the girls what practice is like for their players.
Let's begin with push ups....
That's our Grace, 4th for center, middle row, with her face almost on the ground. Oh Nellie but this kid did it! She can do push ups and do them right! The coach was impressed....we were impressed, heck, Grace was impressed!
Okay ladies....this is how you do it....
So Grace did it....boy did she ever!
And so they ran....they ran so far away....
And they passed....and caught....and passed some more....
...and then they kicked.
Oh, and they did all of this in 92 degree heat. Uh huh. And not one of these fashion conscious, polish wearin' girls complained. They dripped. They hyperventilated. They collapsed in their parent's cars at the end. But they did NOT complain. I was so proud of them all that I actually cried. Yep, old softy Sue cried. And the coaches told them that THEY were proud and would make sure the boys knew just how hard *their* cheerleaders had worked, how brave they were, how none complained.
Women rock.
Love and Hugs,
Susie Q

I AM impressed. In our former town, the cheerleaders worked so hard, and got no recognition -- all the dinners, etc., at the end were for the boys on the teams. I hated that. Cheerleaders work HARD and sweat just as much as the guys!!!
Good for your daughter and her friends... congrats!

Lots of fun days ahead!!

I can remember when band practice started a few weeks before school, which started the day after Labor Day. By that time we were already into fairly fall like days, in SW Missouri. By the time of the second or third football game, I was wearing my flannel pj's under my band uniform, to stay warm! Those days are long gone, at least in MO.

I do miss those times. I hope I can get around when Kaytlynn starts hehe.
Girl she is to built for her age you better put her under lock and key. She doesn't look like a little girl. Those legs are muscled up. Wow I have been following you awhile because she has gone from babies to boys.

I would have been proud of Grace and all of her team too! I was a cheerleader all through high shcool and our coach (female, gym teacher) made sure we all knew the rules of the game. She had us play a touch football game, so we knew what first and 10 meant, etc....

I am thinking that the cheerleading coach for Grace should have the football players learn a cheer/handspring/flip/jump so they really know how hard Grace and her team are working for them!
Hugs,
Penny

WOW...you're going to have to refer to her from now on as "Iron woman Grace"! Great job...she is going to have so much fun. And we know now she's tough enough to handle it!

Those girls kick some butt. I'm proud of them for showing up the boys and not complaining. Great photos of Grace and the others. I know I wouldn't be able to do it in 92 degrees...heck I probably wouldn't be able to sit in that heat.

Grace so looks like a great little athlete. You are in for fun times the next few years - lots of times sitting in the bleachers. It goes by so fast; enjoy it. Sally

How fun!!! Talk about girl power!!! Those girls better be careful though, the coach may just decide he needs a few players if the boys have trouble towing the line ;o)
