Falling Into Woodland

A dear friend recently called and asked a few of us to take a tour of Woodland Cemetery with her. It was absolutely the perfect Autumn day! The skies were so blue, the air cool and crisp, the trees glowing in all their Fall splendor.

Woodland is on of Dayton's treasures. Truly a place of beauty, it is also rich in history.

Of course, it is a quiet place of eternal rest for so many as well.

Among those buried here are the poet Paul Laurence Dunbar, inventors Orville and Wilbur Wright, comedian and actor Jonathan Winters and writer and humorist Erma Bombeck.

It's A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood...

...a beautiful day for a neighbor. Would you be mine? Could you be mine? Grace was out of school due to a teacher in service today. We had scheduled her yearly physical exam for this morning so off to the base we went. We love her doctor, such a sweet and caring woman. Grace did quite well, and as a reward, we had lunch at one of her favorite places. After lunch, we took a little drive, with the windows down and the moon roof open of course! Just a spectacular day weather wise! Blue skies and cooler temperatures. Lovely. We drove up to Wright Hill and walked around. The trees are just beginning to turn, most of the leaves have just the early hint of color but a few are boldly proclaiming, "It's Fall!" This is the memorial to the Wright Brothers. Looking West of the memorial...that is Wright Patterson AFB you see in the distance. Directly in front of the memorial lies Huffman Dam. To the right of the dam lies Huffman Prairie where the Wright Brothers first tested their new flying invention! As we returned to our little community, I realized that I had neglected to take photos of the last stone houses that still stand here. One of the tiniest is Aaron Nutt Cottage. So small but absolutely wonderful. Just across the street form Nutt Cottage stands the largest of our stone buildings. Another nearby home made of stone. Such a pretty place... These last two homes are obviously not made of stone but do sit near the 2 homes shown previously. This is a town home community that has been here for years. Built to resemble homes in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia, each home is well tended, neat as a pin and awfully pretty. So let's make the most of this beautiful day, Since we're together, we might as well say, Would you be mine? Could you be mine? Won't you be my neighbor? Have a sweet weekend dear friends!
