The Sweet Busy-Ness Of Life In The Winter

Once again my mistreated blog has been forgotten and put aside...but I
do think about all of you often and miss you when I am unable to stop in
for a visit! Winter used to be a time when I spent
more time INside but these days
that is not the case!

We have been busy this Winter with Grace and her school's Ski Club.
Before January my daughter had never been on skis but you should see her now!
I am so proud of how she is not afraid to try new things!

In fact, just this past weekend she took a cake class at
Cake, Hope and Love, a fantastic
local bakery!

She was the youngest in the class and did such a good job!

We also celebrated Chinese New Year in style once again!
We took a small group of dear friends to one of our favorite places
and indulged in some of our favorite dishes!

Bill and I have also enjoyed some fun evenings out. Last weekend we
dined at De'Lish, one of our favorite spots in downtown Dayton. How about this?

Rosemary encrusted, chargrilled lamb chops drizzled with a Red wine,
mint infused demi glace served with a Creamy Risotto studded with corn kernels
and a sautéed medley of julienned zucchini, squash and carrots. Sound good? It was!

After dinner we headed across the street to see the
The Human Race Theater Company's production of "Lombardi"
at the Loft Theater.

It was nothing short of amazing!

The next day we headed up to Columbus to see The Who in concert!
Our creaky knees reminded us we weren't quite the same as
we were the last time we saw them perform but they still sounded great and
proved you are never too old to rock and roll!

I also had the pleasure of shooting my first maternity session!
We had so much fun and their precious daughter is
due very soon! I can not wait to meet her!

Since our son moved to Michigan to work for IBM, he gets home about once a month.
He was here just before Valentine's Day so we went to one of his favorite restaurants,
Kabuki, to celebrate a wee bit early. Is there any thing better than having
all of your family together? Nope!

Their plates are small works of art!

On Valentine's Day Bill treated me, Grace, my Mom
and one of my oldest friends, Terri, to
dinner at Savona.

I had the Caesar Salad and Angus Rib-eye with  Blue cheese compound butter,
Yukon  Gold potatoes and Cajun onions...yummy!

Our Winston has enjoyed the little bit of snow we have
had lately. As odd as it may sound to some,
our family loves snow! We all do the happy dance each time the
wet, white stuff is in the forecast!

Of course, after being out in the cold all day, sitting by the fire with a cup
of hot chocolate or mulled wine is definitely one of the sweet things about Winter!

Just a quick peek at what is keeping me busy and, mostly, out of trouble
lately! I hope you are all doing well, staying warm and enjoying
the sweetness that life brings us even on the
dreariest Winter day!

Warmly,
Susie Q

I Know, I Know...

...uh huh. Yup. I know. It's been awhile since the 11th. But so much has happened in that time! Birthdays, weddings, Winston's first Dog Nite, out of town company....well, let's just say we are enjoying a general busy-ness! Today is the first full day of Summer yet it feels like we have already been swamped with all manner of  this season's fun! I sure hope your Summer will go well for you and that your days will be filled with it's sweetness.

Before I play catch up on what has been happening here at Rabbit Run in the last week, may I share our recent trip to Chicago with you? Just 2 weeks ago we were in the Windy City. Bill had a conference to attend so Grace and joined him. It's such a great town, so much to see and do. We never fail to enjoy each journey we make to the home of Wrigley Field!

Love the theater district...I have been fortunate enough to see many exciting plays here and have never failed to be impressed. Oh, and Brian Dennehy often works here in Chicago and is on the board of The Goodman Theater here in town. Just sayin'.

I love the iconic architecture of this town...

ridin' the EL...

...and visiting the famous sights in it's parks.

And The Navy Pier is always fun, even when the weather is chilly and the skies gray!

Then there are the many museums this city has to offer...

And the comedy...oh the glorious comedy! This was the 4th time we have been to The Second City. Almost every famous comedian sharpened their wit on it's stages...from Jerry Stiller to John Belushi...

We saw Tine Fey here when she was an unknown member of the comedy troupe, as well as Stephen Colbert. Both were stand outs then and it didn't surprise me at all they have achieved the fame they have enjoyed.

One young man we saw perform on this trip was truly talented. I will be watching to see if he too joins the ranks of these comedians.

We love to stop in one of the cozy coffee shops...

...try a new Asian bistro...

..dine on deep dish pizza...

..and find a new favorite restaurant! On this trip we discovered Eleven City Diner!  We had seen it featured on The Cooking Channel and just had to stop in! It was wonderful! Great service, delicious food, fun ambiance.

If you visit Chicago soon, do drop in the diner...you will NOT be disappointed! Right Gracie?

Until next time...

The Big Apple

Well, I just wanted to say bye for now....tomorrow we jet off to the Big Apple!
I just can not wait to see Grace's face in New York City! I will always remember the first time we took Danny. He was so excited...as were we to show it all to him!
We will take lots of pictures (Bill bought me a new camera as a surprise!) and tell you all about our trip when we return.
Of course, on Wednesday, we will be seeing two of the "Lions of Broadway" perform in "Inherit The Wind". Uh huh...Brian Dennehy and Christopher Plummer. How cool is that? In Today's "Parade" insert someone asked about Brian and Christopher...where did they stand among the greats....the paper chose Brian as number 1 of stage actors working today. Chris was 4th I think...
And no, it was not ME who wrote the article!! But seeing them work together will be a dream. AND....we will be meeting our Jen and her daughter!! Now how really COOL is that?? I am just a little excited...can you tell? Okay, the dancing feet and tapping fingers and shaky knees and incessant humming gave me away huh? I will miss you all and will catch up with your blogs at the end of the week. I WILL be thinking about you and wish you a safe, happy and *Spring weather like* week ahead! Be good to yourselves....you are all SO special to me. So, so special.
Hugs,
Susie Q
