January Beauty...

I know that many people despise the cold of Winter and that I am one of those odd ducks who revels in these often bleak months...still...how could anyone not see the beauty that this much maligned season can bring? A gentle overnight snow fell and all the world seems dipped in sugar...

"The door was shut, as doors should be,

Before you went to bed last night;

Yet Jack Frost has got in, you see,

And left your window silver white.

He must have waited till you slept;

And not a single word he spoke,

But pencilled o'er the panes and crept

Away again before you woke.

And now you cannot see the hills

Nor fields that stretch beyond the lane;

But there are fairer things than these

His fingers traced on every pane."

- Gabriel Setoun, Jack Frost

Stay warm and be sure to enjoy the beauty this Wintry month offers!

Love and Hugs,
Susie Q

I have no problem with winter - love the opportunity to stay home and watch winter in all of its glory through my window. Actually, it is fairly warm in Colorado right now with no snow on the ground. I remember that poem from my childhood (or my kid's childhood?). Stay comfortable and warm. Sally

I love winter. I'm not crazy about long periods of cold, nor of snow that stays so long it is brown or grey, but it certainly makes for wonderful, gorgeous pictures! Those are gorgeous, and I especially like the old barn. Very nice, Sue!

I'm enjoying 48° right now, and ground that is about 1/2 clear! We're gettin' there!

Your pictures are lovely and I do enjoy winter. I am not enjoying being cooped up, though and hope that I can find something of interest to do until I won't freeze going out!!

Thanks for the pretty pictures, Susie. You make winter look wonderful! :-)

Your photos are beautiful Susie, and I LOVE the poem. I had never seen it before. But I have to admit to being one of those people who hates winter. Cold, slushy, messy and worst of all, dark. I am one of those people who wither without sunshine. Long days of sunshine. If I lived where the nights can be 6 months long, I think I would expire.

Beautiful photos! We rarely ever get snow, though we did get a "dusting" last Thursday...it excited us to pieces!!

Thanks for sharing...

I'm a winter hater. While it can be stunningly beautiful, it's nice to be warm and go outside and still be able to feel your face, haha!

Though, I have to admit that if I moved somewhere that didn't have snow, I'd miss it. But only a little.

Have to admit I love summer, however, the idea of being shut in while nature takes it's course in the depth of winter makes my heart feel all cozy. It's those days I'm so grateful for my home and my family!!!

I often think of winter as quiet...not outside but inside. We move slower, rest more and find pleasure in being together!
While the winds rage, we are safe and warm...with a lot less work to finish than in the summer. Blessings, Dianntha

Consider it a blessing that you really enjoy winter. I do too...as long as the sun shines. Too much darkness makes me crazy!

I'm one of those who cannot bear the cold, but cold it is this winter in the Tampa area. They are setting record lows! Mind you, I don't have the clothes to accommodate, so it's hard for me to stay warm. However, I do see the beauty in your pictures.

Dearest Suzie Q~ your way with words always brings me back here. even after a long absence of ill health I am drawn back to Rabbit Run. It's kinda of like a safe place online that I love to come back to! While I find it odd that you enjoy winter, in a way that I do not. I love how you describe the look of the world after a snowfall as looking like it's been dipped in sugar. My husband is a winter lover as well.

Hope you and the family are doing well!

Your photos are absolutely AMAZING!!!!

I love cool weather...just not cold weather...LOL...I'm a true Southern gal in that regard, I guess. (Although we do love getting snow when we can!)

We are at the lake. I was on the deck taking photos of the ice on the water, twice, this afternoon and evening! Love it.

Today, we had 50 degree temps and we complained about being warm!LOL Not really me, but J did...he wants it to stay below freezing until the appropriate season. I heard this is not the January thaw. Hmmm.

Loved your photos, Sue!

Gorgeous photos, sweet Sue! I don't mind the snow either. I'm not real thrilled with zero temps, though. They're predicting warmer temps for tomorrow and the weekend.

I'm one of those people who tend to shut themselves in all winter. I have to make myself go out, but once I do I always love the stark beauty. Your photos are gorgeous, Sue!!! :)

Oh, Sue, such beautiful pictures of winter's wonder!! I really don't mind the snow and cold at all...maybe it's because I have no choice, living here in Northern Ontario where our winters are long and cold! lol We'd been having temps in the -24F range but the last few days have been going up to 32F so we're finding that quite "balmy":-) Love ya. xoxox

Hi Sue....sure Sally is an old hand at winter...I think I heard her laugh when she read that I feel going down my driveway getting the mail on what I thought was snow but turned out to be ice....it was 21 degrees here this morning but by noon it was 62....now that's what we love about the south!.....but I did really enjoy our snow storm while we were in Jersey....I can take winter in little bits.

Gorgeous photos! I miss snow, but love living in Florida. I just wish our Florida sunshine was here. Not sure where it went, but I want it back. Brrrr...it's cold and rainy.

Hugs sweet friend!
