My Father

Mom and Dad on their wedding day October 3rd, 1953 A photo of my Dad, in his Fire Department uniform, that I keep on my bedside table...

My father was born on June 5th, 1924, in New Market, Tennessee. Today would have been his 85th birthday. My father passed away in July, the 16th to be specific, in 2000.
He served during WW II, as a sailor in the Pacific, drove a semi, became a Dayton fire fighter, always grew an amazing garden, treasured his wife and family, loved animals, his newspaper, TV westerns and John Wayne.
My dad was stubborn, opinionated, funny and loving. He was strong and loyal, bull headed and
always sang or whistled when he worked.
He could make me so mad, so happy & so proud. I knew he loved me unconditionally. I felt totally safe when I was with him. I will miss him for the rest of my life...
Happy birthday Daddy.
Love,
Susie Q

What a lovely tribute to your Dad. I am lucky to still have my Dad; he's 89 and I treasure time spent with him. He, too, is a WW II vet, Navy bombadier.
They were remarkable, that generation, weren't they?

My Mom passed away in 1999 and then my father passed away 9 months later in 2000. That was a tough time for me and still is. That was a lovely tribute to your Dad. Mine would have been 87 this year.

A precious post about your father. How happy he would be to know that you knew he loved you unconditionally and that he made you feel safe. As parents ourselves, what more could you want your children to say of you as a parent?

WOW...Sue...what a beautiful tribute to your father...it is obvious he was a wonderful man by the awesome daughter he helped raise.

Your dad sounds very much like how my dad was, happy, loving, kind, funny, strong, stubborn, caring, and he was always whistling around our home. He adored my mother, made me feel as though I was the most important thing in his life whenever I was with him and he was a wonderful pa-pa to our children. He would have been 74 this past March, he died in 1998...I still miss him w/all my heart...I like you felt the most safe when I was w/him...until he gently gave my hand in marriage to my lovin hubbin...aren't we just the MOST blessed gals in the world, Susie...to have been raised by such men...only to fall for men that easliy picked up where our dad's had to so unconditionally let go...we truly are lucky ladies.

Thanks for sharing the pictures...your parents were a lovely couple...and I think your dad has that Glenn Ford handsomeness? quality...not sure if it's his eyes or that side way smile...in any case...he was very handsome!
Thanks for sharing...
