Summer Re-Runs

I am re-running a post from 2007 today. Why? Because, gosh darn it, I felt like it. *grin*. But the real reason is that my daughter came down the stairs singing this tune...where she heard it she has no idea. But heard it she did and sing it she did. You will find the old post here:
It has been raining a lot for the past 3 days and the clouds are once again forming in anticipation of a late afternoon thunder storm. But there is always something to smile about. Always. Even when those *gray clouds* are metaphorical and not physical.
I dedicate this post to my friend Andi (who I speak of in this 2007 post) and her son Chase. I love them and wish I could see them more. Andi's mother has been ill for quite awhile and I wish I could do something more for them...something more than pray or send good thoughts...it doesn't seem like enough. I hope she knows how much I care...
One of the things that always makes ME smile is having all of YOU visiting Rabbit Run Cottage. I don't deserve you, I have been a neglectful blogger once again, but each one of you is appreciated and loved.
I hope YOU find something to smile about today...and let that old rain fall.
Love and Hugs,
Susie Q

April Showers...2 Days Early

And the home owner's motto? Never give up, never give in...to
naughty leprechaun shenanigans that is!
A few new stones, 3 new faces and something to keep those April showers
at bay...
The story of this spunky homeowner will be in Thursday's edition of the Dayton Daily News accompanied by pictures taken by one Susie Q from Rabbit Run Cottage!
The rain fell for three days. Perfect weather, if you're a robin lookinng for worms. The ducks and geese were everywhere, in pairs,
happily splashing in puddles and protecting their nests from evil
intruders. Evil beings like me...
HONK! Stay away from my nest you human you! HONK!
This goose was doing one of the best weather vane impressions
I have ever seen! Here he is doing an inimitable WNW!

Tea With Tasha

It is raining now and I revel in each raindrop that hits my windowpane...it has been too long since I last heard their pitter pat and the gentle rumble of thunder that accompanies them. The house just seems all the more cozy and safe on days such as this. The baby is asleep and Grace is in her room making a latch hook rug and waiting for the clock to tell her it is time for Aunt M and Ti to arrive! They have a delicious afternoon of "Girlie Shopping at the Greene" planned! The Greene is our newest shopping/dining outdoor mall and it is Grace's favorite place to spend a few hours! I wanted to share this delightful place with you today...I have long been a great admirer of writer and artist Tasha Tudor and her family. It is always pleasant to stop by their web pages and spend a few quiet minutes. Doesn't a nice, hot cup of tea sound heavenly just now? I wonder if we still have some of those good lemon cookies left in the pantry....
From the Tasha Tudor and Family web pages....
April and May have come and gone, and if their only purpose was to bring June, it was a noble one indeed. For June is the greenest and happiest time of year for the garden, if only because the transformation from winter to spring is such a dramatic one. Nowhere is this remarkable advent of change more obvious than a well-established garden. Where the bitter and frequent winds of winter swept the featureless perennial beds, a mass of gentle green foliage now stands. Bleeding heart, sweet rocket, thalictrum, delphinium, daylily, tulips, daffodils, iris, and a sea of flowering crab blossoms obscure the stonewalls. Where there are no plants, the grass takes up, flowing through the main areas and dispersing quietly into paths. These paths lead to quiet delights, a pond, a secret garden, an azalea garden, and a wildflower garden. The sweet cicely beneath the pear tree grows vigorously, and tastes like licorice. Not far from the clothesline stands the horse chestnut tree, a fast-growing tree, the nuts of which the squirrels are fond of. Not far beyond the herb garden stands a lovely circle of mint, thyme, lambs ear, oregano, parsley, basil, chives, rosemary, bay, embraced by a hedge of miniature arborvitae. The bay tree stands in the middle of the circular path. The path is a brick one, with creeping thyme coming up through the cracks. Every so often a volunteer, that is, a plant that comes up on its own, shows up in this path. Usually it is a hollyhock, and is left to enjoy the summer. Hummingbirds frequent the back of Tasha’s house. This is due to the profusion of red bee balm, and the proximity of the azalea garden just over the bank. There the triple white pine stands. Before a big windstorm comes up Tasha often says, “I hope it doesn’t come down. It would be quite a job to clean up.” The tree is on ledge, in fact, and is tall and wide. Nonetheless it has not come down for the past one hundred years, and seems intent on staying for another century. The other morning Tasha swept the front porch clear of lilac and crabapple blossoms that blew in on an early summer thunderstorm, and set the table for iced tea. Regular tea does not necessarily take a hiatus until cooler weather, for sometimes there are those people who despite warm and humid weather enjoy their tea extra hot. From the porch visitors have a prominent view of the white tree peony, and the plethora of sweet rocket that has seeded throughout the southern garden beds. They are a bright and cheerful flower. “I’ve always liked them,” Tasha said as she sat in her rocker and held a cup of hot tea in her hand and gazed across all the flowers, “They remind me of summer.”

This And That And A Whole Lot Of Rain

What a dreary, rainy day. I am thinking about building an ark...I have the 2 cats but I will need to add the rest. Let's see, I need one more dog, a couple of aardvarks, 2 humpback whales and dos naked mole rats. Anyone know where I can score those? Oh, and I need a whole lot of litter, hay and some nails. And a Mochachino machine. For the penguins you know. They LOVE a good Mochachino. Really. I left the house at 7:15 today. I KNOW! On a rainy, dark Saturday morning! Am I crazy? Well, we all know the answer to that question but I did have a good reason to be up early today. I took the Red Cross re-certification class for Infant and Child CPR. It had been awhile and I thought it a good idea. I will be watching our neighbor's new daughter 3-4 days a week and it is always a nice idea to be up to date. At least that will be one thing I am up to date on... clothes? Nope. Hair style? Naw...just this, oh yeah. Oh! Andi! I think it was you who asked about the candle I mentioned in a previous post. I LOVE Yankee Candles too but this new one is a Wood Wicks Caramel candle. While burning, the wick sounds just like a fire crackling and the smell is soooo yummy. They have dozens of scents. I found this one at my local Hallmark store. Now, Chad's boxes...Coleen? You mentioned that you already have some things. Do you wish to do January? Otherwise, I have you pegged to do June. I just want everyone to be happy and Chad to have surprises every month! Just let me know okay? I can bump myself if you wish to do this month. I am always bumping myself all the time anyhoo...into tables, chairs, dogs, walls... Valerie...you are July and Missy? You are August. I know that seems far away but time flies (well, it does when you are really old like me!) and this way, we will have wonderful things for Chad to look forward to every month! Fun for him, fun for us. Oh, don't forget to take pictures of the box and you preparing it. We can all share that with each other. Valerie? Jolene mentioned that he would just like *anything*. I always sent things to Bill and our friends each month and would choose items that were indicative of the month...and season. I also included little personal care kits, hard candy, cookies, magazines, books, little silly toys and whatever caught my eye. Just send a smile! Things can also be shared with the others in his unit too. Chocolate sometimes melts but some candies do better than others, IE, M & Ms always worked for us. Thank you, again, for this guys. You are all the best. I love ya'll. This will be such a delight for Chad I know. Mail is a HUGE thing for our troops. Get well Terri and Cindy. If you need me, CALL! I did not want to call and disturb you (just in case you were actually sleeping!). I am here... The weather is not helping anyone here! Warm and rainy and then cold and icy. I am thinking we should all file a complaint...yeah, told ya I was crazy! Okay, I need to run and get Grace ready for an afternoon birthday party! A bowling extravaganza! I will visit all my blog friends later tonight...I hope you are all having a nice day, no matter what the weather is in your neck of the woods. Or leg of the pasture, stomach of the glen or ear of the city. I myself live in the elbow of the municipality. And that rain is beginning to pool up in the crook of that elbow. Darn. Hugs,
Suzie Q

Quiet Evening, Rainy Night

Grace and I had a late lunch at "The Chop House" with my buddy T.H. and my mother. The soup was Chicken Tortilla and just the perfect thing for a rainy afternoon. Great salad too...
Grace got the prime rib and mashers off the children's menu. It was a HUGE portion of both, really delicious and just $5.49. Too bad I can't order it! Darn...
Mom, Grace and I ran a few errands and did a little shopping. Finally got Miss Grace a mirror for her room. Dan is much relieved. He may get a lot more bathroom time now!
We ran by my favorite bookstore, Books & Company, and picked up two of my favorite magazines, "Cooking With Paula Deen" & "Romantic Homes". My "Mary Englebreit's Home Companion" came in the mail yesterday and I did not have a moment to look through it till now! I also picked up "Paula Deen Celebrates!" too. It was on sale at a remarkable price for Books & Co. card members. I love that!
Stopped by Mom's and visited for a bit then headed home to relax.
I fixed Dan and Grace a *little nosh* as their Dad always says, made myself some hot cider, lit my yummy, new "Caramel" candle and just enjoyed...ahhhh...the rain is tapping at the windows, the fireplace is lit and Dan has turned on some Tony Bennett. Lucy is asleep on my lap, Kip is laying on my feet, Henry is purring loudly on Dan's lap, Grace is safely & soundly asleep....what could be better? Oh, if only Bill was here...okay Sue! Stiff upper lip. He will be home soon. Now, dive into your magazines and dream....
Have a wonderful Monday everyone. Stay well.
Hugs,
Suzie Q

Fun With Sully And Earl

It's raining yet again and I needed a bit of a giggle. I opened up my morning paper and there it was... Our local paper is having a bit of fun with the Earl & Sully romance. A cheeky little send up of a British tabloid...
Sully says, "It's every girl's princess fantasy come true--apart from the 2 ex wives and the 6 step-kids."
Spence says, "I'd gladly give my throne up for Coleen, if I was actually an heir to one."
Royal Row!
Prince Wills tells Uncle Spence, "I much prefer Katie Couric!"
....What's all this pish posh about Earl Spencer taking up with some American tart? Blimey! Have you seen her? She's a real corker. A bloke would be daft as a brush not to chat up that pretty Coleen....
And I was gobsmacked to read this:
An...uh, um...*interview* with the, soon to be former, Mrs. Earl, The Pidge, gave us this choice bit...
"What can this Sullied-van offer but cows, cornhole and a tour of Ohio State? I'm a lady, she's a Buckeye, a hard brown nut. It's truly nauseating!
Pidge went on to tell of her new paramour, one Mr. Dan Rather, *America's News King*. "Being with him is heads and tails more prestigious than any Channel 2 news tart whose biggest story is snow".
Now, don't throw a wobbly and think this is all for real...it was part of a send up, news writers being a bit daft and having a laugh.
Just a load of codswallop...with syrup.
Ta...cheers!
Hugs,
Sue
