The Sweet Busy-Ness Of Life In The Winter

Once again my mistreated blog has been forgotten and put aside...but I
do think about all of you often and miss you when I am unable to stop in
for a visit! Winter used to be a time when I spent
more time INside but these days
that is not the case!

We have been busy this Winter with Grace and her school's Ski Club.
Before January my daughter had never been on skis but you should see her now!
I am so proud of how she is not afraid to try new things!

In fact, just this past weekend she took a cake class at
Cake, Hope and Love, a fantastic
local bakery!

She was the youngest in the class and did such a good job!

We also celebrated Chinese New Year in style once again!
We took a small group of dear friends to one of our favorite places
and indulged in some of our favorite dishes!

Bill and I have also enjoyed some fun evenings out. Last weekend we
dined at De'Lish, one of our favorite spots in downtown Dayton. How about this?

Rosemary encrusted, chargrilled lamb chops drizzled with a Red wine,
mint infused demi glace served with a Creamy Risotto studded with corn kernels
and a sautéed medley of julienned zucchini, squash and carrots. Sound good? It was!

After dinner we headed across the street to see the
The Human Race Theater Company's production of "Lombardi"
at the Loft Theater.

It was nothing short of amazing!

The next day we headed up to Columbus to see The Who in concert!
Our creaky knees reminded us we weren't quite the same as
we were the last time we saw them perform but they still sounded great and
proved you are never too old to rock and roll!

I also had the pleasure of shooting my first maternity session!
We had so much fun and their precious daughter is
due very soon! I can not wait to meet her!

Since our son moved to Michigan to work for IBM, he gets home about once a month.
He was here just before Valentine's Day so we went to one of his favorite restaurants,
Kabuki, to celebrate a wee bit early. Is there any thing better than having
all of your family together? Nope!

Their plates are small works of art!

On Valentine's Day Bill treated me, Grace, my Mom
and one of my oldest friends, Terri, to
dinner at Savona.

I had the Caesar Salad and Angus Rib-eye with  Blue cheese compound butter,
Yukon  Gold potatoes and Cajun onions...yummy!

Our Winston has enjoyed the little bit of snow we have
had lately. As odd as it may sound to some,
our family loves snow! We all do the happy dance each time the
wet, white stuff is in the forecast!

Of course, after being out in the cold all day, sitting by the fire with a cup
of hot chocolate or mulled wine is definitely one of the sweet things about Winter!

Just a quick peek at what is keeping me busy and, mostly, out of trouble
lately! I hope you are all doing well, staying warm and enjoying
the sweetness that life brings us even on the
dreariest Winter day!

Warmly,
Susie Q

It's November And You Know What THAT Means!

Hi everyone! Its me, Winston, and I want to
wish you all a Happy November!

November has lots of sweetness...

...like crunchy leaves to play in...

...and even ones that fall on your head.

But you know what I like best about
November?

TURKEY!

Happy Turkey Month!

Love,
Winston;  Dog

Beggar's Night Fun

Our Grace was beautifully
dressed as a 1950's sweetie...

...and our Winston went as his favorite snack!

The weather was rainy, cold and windy but we still had
over 100 little ones come Trick or Treating!

Hoping you are well, safe and enjoying the last days of October!
Can you believe November is knocking at our doors?

Warmly,
Susie Q

The Doggie Dictionary

Hi everyone! This is Winston. The dog.
My Mom has been pretty busy lately and hasn't had any time to write nuthin' at all. Bein' a good dog and all, I told her I would help out! So I am. In case you have a dog or two, you might need to know these words and their meanins'.

LEASH: A strap which attaches to your collar enabling you to lead your person where you want him/her to go.

(I am really, really good at this! Really.)

DOG BED: Any soft, clean surface, such as the white bedspread in the guest room or the newly upholstered couch in the living room.

(You should see the permanent dent I put in the couch pillows! It's waaay cool!)

DROOL: What to do when your persons have food and you don’t. To do this properly you must sit as close as you can and look sad and let the drool fall to the floor or, better yet, on their laps.

(Drink a lot right before you try this and it works even better!)

SNIFF: A social custom to use when you greet other dogs until your person makes you stop.

(How else ya gonna get to know new friends?)

GARBAGE CAN: A container which your neighbors put out once a week to test your ingenuity. You must stand on your hind legs and try to push the lid off with your nose. If you do it right you are rewarded with margarine wrappers to shred, beef bones to consume and moldy crusts of bread.

(The one in my kitchen has this crazy lid on it. But one of these days...)

BICYCLES: Two-wheeled exercise machines, invented for dogs to control body fat. To get maximum aerobic benefit, you must hide behind a bush and dash out, bark loudly and run alongside for a few yards; the person then swerves and falls into the bushes, and you complete the exercise by prancing away.

(I think bicycles are evil beins' from another planet and it is
my job to protect my family from them! So there!)

HARD OF HEARING: A malady which affects a dog when its person wants it in and the dog wants to stay out. Symptoms include staring blankly at the person, then running in the opposite direction, or lying down.

( I also get this problem when my parents tell me to get in my box or
to stop chasin' the cats. Weird huh?)

THUNDER: A signal that the world is coming to an end. Humans remain amazingly calm during thunderstorms, so it is necessary to warn them of the danger by trembling uncontrollably, panting, peeing on the rug, rolling your eyes wildly and following at their heels.

(Thunder is bad. Very bad. Very. I am scared just writin' this.)

WASTEBASKET: A dog toy filled with paper, envelopes, and old candy wrappers. When you get bored, turn over the basket and strew the papers all over the house for your person to play with by putting back in the wastebasket when they come home.

(It helps give my Mom a good cardio work out every day...hey look!
You missed some paper over there! Just doin' my part to keep Mommy healfy!)

SOFAS: Are to dogs like napkins are to people. After eating it is polite to run up and down the front of the sofa and wipe your whiskers clean.

(Especially after you accidentally on purpose eat some passghetti wif loads of sauce!)

BATH: A process by which the humans drench the floor, walls and themselves. You can help by shaking vigorously and frequently.

(And I am a very good helper!)

LEAN: Every good dog’s response to the command “sit!” — especially if your person is dressed for an evening out. Incredibly effective before black-tie events.

(No one is fully dressed wifout some doggie or kitty hair on their clothes! I read that somewheres!)

BUMP: The best way to get your human’s attention when they are drinking a fresh cup of coffee or tea.

(Or milk, juice, Coke, wine, hot chocolate, cider...)

GOOSE BUMP: A last-resort maneuver used when the Regular Bump doesn’t get the attention you require. Especially effective when combined with The Sniff (see above).

LOVE: A feeling of intense affection, given freely and without restriction. To show your love, wag your tail and gaze adoringly. If you’re lucky, a human will love you in return.

(And I am a pretty lucky boy. 'Cause even when I am naughty my
family loves me anyway. And I love them. Yup.)

Well, all that hard work wore me right out!

So, later taters...see ya next time!

Hugs & Kisses,
Winston Barr Churchill George

Winston's Words Of Wisdom Chapter 2

Take time to relax and roll in the grass...
...and flowers, dead bugs, bubble gum, mud, slimy worms and old cheese puffs.

Winston's Words Of Wisdom

Winston's Words of Wisdom: Chapter One

As you go through your busy day, be sure to stop and smell the roses...
...and the air, the trees, the bushes, the grass, dead bugs, hot dogs, trash cans, worms, old candy wrappers and all the other dog, well, um, the other doggie end parts...except most of YOU are not dogs and that might just look goofy so maybe you shouldn't do that...along the way.

Thank you!
This has been Winston's Words of Wisdom.

Love,
Me, Winston

Did Someone Say 'Scream?

Hi guys. It's me, Winston and I just went to my first Dog Nite at Ritter's! It was fun. Uh huh. Really, really fun. Yup. I like car rides so when Mom and Dad said we were goin' bye bye, well, I ran really fast to the door! But I didn't know the evening was gonna get even better!
Wow! Look at this! I never saw so many dogs all in one place!

Like this doggie...

..and this one!

Him too!
And her!

Okay, I guess you get it but golly! It was way cool to see so many new dog friends!

And then, guess what? They gave me my own cup of cold stuff! Mom said my brother Kipper always called it 'scream. I never got to meet Kip but I hear he was one awesome guy. I wanna be like him so I think I will try this stuff...oh boy. Oh boy! This is the best ever!

Right?

RIGHT?

This is my new friend Maggie. Maggie's parents are my parent's friends so's that
makes 'em my friends too right? Isn't Maggie really pretty?

Maggie was doing' some meet and greet too...
And this is Sadie, my other new friend! Her Mom is my Mom's friend.
They went to High School together, whatever THAT is. Sadie is very pretty and nice too. She let me drink out of her cool bowl and all.

This guy was lickin' his bowl clean!

Uh oh! Ice cream headache! Ouchers!
This was a night I will remember always, or at least until I don't. But it WAS fun and I hope my parents take me back next month. Mom? Dad? Can we go get more 'scream in July? Can we? Pretty please?

Luv,
Winston

**And Kip? We sure did think about you...lots of people there missed you.
You were, and will always be, the King Of Dog Nite!
We love you  Dude.
